8-Month-Old Miracle Baby’s Brain Tumor Cured By Cannabis Oil
An eight-month-old infant found new life and a chance to be normal thanks to cannabis oil. Physician and cannabis advocate Dr. William Courtney claimed that his youngest patient received cannabis treatment that largely reduced the size of his inoperable brain tumor.
In 2012, Dr. William Courtney graced the headlines of news publications and various marijuana-related media sources after he narrated how his youngest patient with massive centrally located inoperable brain tumor was cured by cannabis oil. Now, we expect the child to be three years old and enjoying the new breath of life given to him.
The identity of the patient was undisclosed, but his condition was a congenital benign tumor in his brain. Doctors recommended conventional treatment consisted of chemotherapy, radiotheraphy, and surgery. However, these kinds of treatment run very high risks to the patient. Due to the patient’s frail stature, the child’s father sought for non-traditional and non-invasive types of treatment.
Until, the family met with Dr. Courtney who was working on cannabis oil treatment. It was a far-fetched type of treatment, but it was worth a try that time. With direct advice from Dr. Courtney, the family tried putting cannabinoid oil on the baby's pacifier twice a day, while slowly increasing the dosage.
Based on the CT Scan images provided by Dr. Courtney in an interview with Huffington Post, in just two months, there is a dramatic reduction on the size of the brain tumor. The tumor further “melted” in the succeeding four and eight months of treatment.
"This child...is not going to have the long-term side effects that would come from a very high dose of chemotherapy or radiation,” Dr. Courtney said during the interview.
Dr. William Courtney: The Cannabis Advocate
Ethical questions were raised on the use of marijuana on young kids, especially on an infant. However, Dr. William Courtney insisted that they took necessary precautions and extensive research in administering cannabis oil.
Dr. William Courtney has an extensive medical education. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of Michigan and received his Doctor of Medicine from Wayne State University, and Interned for Residency in Psychiatry at California Pacific Medical Center and went on to earned his Post Doctorate in Forensic Examination and Forensic Medicine.
He became interested on the capabilities and benefits of marijuana, particularly of cannabis oil. . Dr. Courtney is currently a member of American Academy of Cannabinoid Medicine, the International Cannabinoid Research Society, the International Association of Cannabis as Medicine, and the Society of Clinical Cannabis. Dr. Courtney has also been teaching Continuing Medical Education (CME) courses in clinical cannabis.
He works on the dietary uses of cannabis to achieve 250 to 500 mg of cannabinoid acids, which he considers as a conditionally essential nutrient in the diet of individuals. As an advocate, Dr. Courtney gave various talks and presentations and wrote myriad of articles about the dietary purposes of high dose non-psychoactive cannabis oil.
Currently, Dr. Courtney is the vice president of the Association Luxembourgeoise des Methodes Preventives and is working with dispensaries interested in providing high dose raw/juiced cannabis to seriously ill medical marijuana patients.
Other Cancer Patient Use Cannabis For Cure
The case of Dr. Courtney’s patient is added to the list of cancer patients who claim that their grave illness was cured by marijuana, which is getting longer by the day.
10-year-old Brave Mykayla made the headlines when her parents claimed that the use of cannabinoids treatment improved their daughter’s condition. Mykayla was diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a very aggressive form of childhood leukemia. In 2012, doctors discovered a mass of lymphoblasts in her chest. Unwilling to go for chemotherapy and radiotheraphy, Mykayla’s parents sought alternative treatments and stumble using cannabinoids as cure. Surprisingly, the substance decreased the cancer cell counts and improves the patient’s immune system. Later, it was found out that Mykayla has no lymphoblasts in her blood smear. Right now, she is enjoying her renewed life like any other child.
Another case of marijuana curing cancer is when former “Optician to the Stars” Cheryl Shuman was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2006. She underwent radical hysterectomy, but the cancer spread to her colon and bladder, and her condition became worse until she was bedridden. Then, she started taking high doses of the marijuana to secretly treat herself.
“I was bedridden, catheterized, totally dependent,” she said. “Then, in 30 days, I was off my IV morphine pump and all the pharmaceuticals I was being given. I was able to bathe myself and walk. At 60 days, I was able to drive. At 90 days I was back to work full time.”
Cannabis oil is the extract or by-product of marijuana. Unlike marijuana used to get “high,” which has a high concentration of chemical compound THC that is responsible for the psychoactive effects of the drug, cannabis oil contains CBD compound that is the non-psychoactive ingredient of marijuana. Cannabis oil was extracted and is believed to have a myriad of medical benefits like other herbal or medicinal plants.
Currently, Cannabis is a Schedule 1 drug under the Controlled Substances Act. The compound, even medical marijuana, is controlled at the state level. While Cannabis is still illegal, the federal government will not actively pursue and prosecute patients and caregivers using medical marijuana in treating patients. However, illegal use and trafficking of marijuana is punishable by law.
Benefits of Using Cannabis Oil
Various research and studies claimed that cannabis have anti-cancer components or anti-carcinogenic and anti-tumor effects. Based on the clinical research conducted among cancer patients, cannabis improves their health and dissolves the cancer cells.
In the past, marijuana is used to treat a wide range of maladies. For cancer patients, cannabis oil is believed to improve the symptoms of the disease and reduce nausea and vomiting during chemotherapy sessions of people with cancer. It can even improve the appetite of people with HIV/AIDS.
While many people believed that medical marijuana has a lot of benefits, there is a lack of data and research to prove the safety of the substance. Some of the adverse effects of Cannabis are tiredness, dizziness, cardiovascular and psychoactive effects. Moreover, withdrawal symptoms are, sometimes, felt by patients. Meanwhile, due to the lack of supporting data on the medical benefits of marijuana, it is clouded by the substance’s negative image.
Research and Development
While health practitioners stressed that there is no reliable evidence that Cannabis oil can cure cancer, various research and development are underway to discover the various benefits and uses of marijuana. In the United States, 18 states approved the use of marijuana for as a medicinal drug and 70 percent of Americans are in favor of legalizing marijuana, according to a survey. With this figures, there is a need to further explore the different purposes of marijuana, especially its medical benefits as a form of alternative treatment.
However, legislative issues with cannabis limit clinical trials and research. Legalization of marijuana will enable full-blown research and exploration on the medical advantages of the substance. Research can be conducted not only on CBD, but on other components of marijuana as well, to the pharmaceutical level in order to prove the substance’s effectiveness.
